In 1994, after 10 years of planning and approvals, development began at Lakewood Ranch, a 5,500-acre master-planned community east of I-75 on the Manatee-Sarasota county line. Its proximity to the interstate affords easy access to two international airports, two seaports and all major Florida destinations. Residential options include single-family homes, condominiums, townhomes, apartments and an assisted-living facility. Lakewood Ranch is one of Florida’s fastest-growing master-planned residential and business centers.
Lakewood Ranch has received the Grand Aurora Award for the Best Planned Community Design in the Southeast, the Excel Award for the Best Master Planned Community of the Year, among others. Lakewood Ranch was recently voted "Best Neighborhood" two years in a row by the readers of Sarasota magazine.
A city onto itself, Lakewood Ranch offers all the necessary components for quality living – beautiful homes, plentiful shopping, cultural amenities, lovely parks, recreational areas, abundant employment opportunities and excellent learning facilities. Its master plan calls for 50 percent of the land to be set aside for recreation and open space.
The community’s amenity-rich environment creates the perfect atmosphere for recreation and healthy living. You’ll find 54 holes of championship golf designed by the Arnold Palmer design team, aquatics and tennis center, athletic club and the Sarasota Polo Club, as well as a grand private country club, neighborhood lakes, fishing ponds, an expansive pedestrian trail system and six lushly landscaped parks.
From elementary schools to higher education, Lakewood Ranch learning facilities are top quality. Public schools include Braden River Elementary, NcNeal Elementary, Willis Elementary (new as of 2005), Braden River Middle, Nolan Middle and Lakewood Ranch High School. Private schools include the acclaimed Out of Door Academy. The community is also home to the Manatee County College Lakewood Ranch campus and Keiser College.
Lakewood Ranch has three commercial parks set amid wetlands, preserves and lakes. Financial Park houses a variety of professional offices.
Town Center's Market Square features an open mall anchored by a Publix Super Market and adjoining retail shops and restaurants. The mile-long Lake Uihlein is the backdrop for upscale shopping and dining on Main Street. Boutique-style stores and upscale restaurants border a tree-lined promenade that leads to a bandstand park designed for picnics, art shows and outdoor concerts. This destination-style shopping attraction offers upscale shopping with a hometown feel.
This 30-acre medical campus developed by Universal Health Services and Manatee Memorial Hospital provides families with a wide range of medical services. Manatee Memorial Hospital opened a 120-bed acute-care hospital, complete with emergency care, outpatient services and a woman's center. Adjacent to the hospital is a 60,000-square-foot medical office building, which houses physician offices as well as diagnostic and laboratory facilities.
The Country Club is a gated community built around 54 holes of golf designed by the Arnold Palmer team. Miles of sidewalks and trails offer easy access to the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, the Athletic Center and all of Lakewood Ranch. Residential options range from full-maintenance condos and villas to detached single-family homes with lawn service to grand-scale estate residences. Home sizes range from 1,350 to more than 10,000 square feet. From $350,000 to $4 million +.
Scheduled to open in the fall of 2006, the Lake Club is the newest community in Lakewood Ranch. Located east of the Country Club at Lakewood Ranch and across from the Sarasota Polo Club, this distinct community will feature a style and sophistication unmatched in the area. A beautifully landscaped entryway and gatehouse will lead property owners and their pre-arranged guests across decorative stone bridges to a uniquely diverse selection of 768 single-family architecturally approved homes. For those homeowners who prefer water over golf course views, The Lake Club offers homesites situated on a series of connected lakes which range from half an acre to an acre and a half. The tranquil ambiance of the community is created through careful attention to the architectural design of homes, decorative fencing and fountains as well as the design of an extensive linear park system, open green space and lush landscaping plans. Maintenance-free living will also be offered in the form of approximately 300 coach homes and low-rise condominiums. Other amenities include a 16,000 square foot clubhouse which will feature outside pools on multiple levels, connected by flowing water, day spa and dining facilities. Featuring the region's highest concentration of multimillion-dollar properties not directly located on the Gulf of Mexico, prices begin at $1.5 million.
